July Blog: Management Plan version 1.0

During my first year at Noxubee County High School I hope to establish a safe learning environment that maximizes the amount of time students spend on task, working, and learning. Moreover, I want my students to be engaged in each day's lesson and encouraged to always give their best effort. In order to achieve this I need to create an organized classroom, set clear expectations, and distribute fair consequences balanced with rewards to encourage other students to follow the expectations for my classroom. This is reflected in my rules, consequences, and rewards displayed below.

Rules
1. Follow all directions the first time given
2. Raise your hand to speak or stand and wait to be acknowledged
3. Respect the teacher, your classmates, and yourself
4. Come to class prepared, on time, and ready to learn
5. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself

Why Are My Rules Important?
Each of these rules will minimize distractions and classroom disruptions which should help maximize the amount of time students spend on task in my classroom. Rule #3 is especially important since it includes things like negative remarks,  inappropriate language, and belligerent behavior directed towards anyone in the classroom.

Consequences
1. Warning
2. Writing Assignment (Double Writing Assignment)
3. Behavioral Intervention (Seat Change, Hall Conference, Last to Leave, Isolation Desk)
4. Phone Call Home
5. Referral
*Severity Clause* The teacher has the right to skip to any consequence

Why Are My Consequences Important?
These consequences will only be issued if my behavior expectations outlined in my rules are not met. Each consequence serves to reestablish a peaceful classroom environment that is conducive to student learning.

Rewards
1. Verbal Praise
2. Tickets (for a raffle at the end of each unit)
3. Positive Note/Call Home
4. Brainy Biologists (Student work board)
5. All-Star Team (5 outstanding students from each class at the end of each unit)

Why Are My Rewards Important?
Simply put, most students like to be recognized for doing a good job in class. Also, highlighting good student behavior and student achievement may encourage those who are misbehaving or underachieving to work harder or correct their behavior in my classroom.
